24 Hour Guide to the Charming Island of Korčula | Croatia
Why Go to Korčula
A medieval island surrounded by turquoise waters and the birthplace of one of the most famous explorers in world history, the island of Korčula (pronounced core-chula) makes for a relaxed, yet fulfilling day in the Adriatic. With no real “sights” to see, a day in Korčula is best spent exploring the bougainvillea covered narrow cobblestone streets of old town, stopping into the occasional shop, enjoying a leisurely lunch seaside, and then sunbathing on the rocks below. A visit to the Marco Polo house provides a nice lookout tower to view the town from above, and just enough history about this 13th century explorer. The pace here fit our vacation vibe perfectly.
What to Do in Korčula
VISIT the Marko Polo House | The main attraction of this small house is the lookout tower - other portions of the home are not accessible, but for a small fee, it’s worth climbing the wooden stairs and spending a few minutes at the top, reading a few placards about Marco Polo’s life along the way.
SHOP at the Ginger Store | 8, Ul. Depolo. While there are quite a few kitschy souvenir stores and more Marco Polo shops than we’d like, we thought the Ginger store was worth a stop. It’s a cute boutique featuring Croatian artists and locally made goods.
DRINK Rosé seaside | One of the things we liked best about Korčula, were the many restaurants with outdoor seating looking out onto the ocean. The best spots can fill up quickly, so either put your name in and explore or be willing to wait a bit to get a table with a nice view.
Where to Eat in Korčula
Creperia Sempre Dritto | A well designed space with both indoor and outdoor seating and a very friendly owner, Creperia Sempre Dritto offers crepes, coffee, smoothies, and sandwiches. We loved starting our day here.
Nonno and Filippi were our favorite restaurants located along the coast with tables overlooking the ocean. Both complete the experience with delicious food, a nice wine selection, and reasonable prices.
Lesic Dimitri | For a five course splurge of a meal, make a reservation at LD Restaurant. This would be a great place for a special dinner.
