A Visual Journey Down the Nærøyfjord | Norway
The Nærøyfjord, a stunningly narrow fjord that runs from Gundvangen into the larger Søgnefjord, was created 2.5 million years ago as the glaciers that covered it retreated, slowing eroding a deep, steep valley that later filled with sea water. The Nærøyfjord sets itself apart from other breathtaking fjords with its nearness - in fact, "nær" means near in Norwegian; the narrowness of the fjord means that you can cruise on a ferry down the middle of it and feel quite near to the sky high stone walls on either side of your boat.
