Lodging Review | Surf N Sun
WHAT: Surf n sun
when: Mid-June through August
Where: arugam bay, sri lanka
price: ~$80/night for a deluxe villa
(which we recommend because the villas are the only units with A/C)
Overview
Tucked away just off the main drag in Arugam Bay, Surf N Sun's open air, lantern lit, plant covered property takes on a mystical, Indiana Jones quality when arriving at night. A sand pathway lined with clay lanterns leads to the different rooms, all set back with their own walkways and small patios. The Deluxe Villas have been simply, but impeccably designed; their only fault (and it can be a big one on warm nights) is that the A/C can cut out if between the two villas (which share an electricity source) are taking too much energy with lights & outlets. The owner takes a lax approach to customer service and you can expect little to no service from him outside of checking in and out. There is a yoga shala and restaurant on site, but they are only open during peak season. The beach lies across the road and through the beachside businesses; a close walk away. A number of restaurants, shops, and surf rentals are in walking distance from the hotel. Overall a charming hotel, at a great price in a great location, best for low-key guests.
- Wifi: Only in the Lobby
