The storms happening across the US right now make us want to curl up with a blanket in front of a fireplace and read a good book with a mug of hot chocolate (or a glass of Petite Syrah).
I will start by saying that Vancouver Island is truly worth your money + efforts. You'll find free spirited hippies throughout, ready to send you love + happiness; endless coffee shops full of entrepreneurs planning their next big gig; countless beaches dotted with sun lovers; and an abundant amount of surfers restlessly fighting to catch the perfect wave. The Island is a place to completely lose yourself in the natural state of wonder, constantly being in awe of what surrounds you. I've spent most days outside exploring my surroundings, trying to capture the beauty of it all and the Island has taught me to appreciate where I am, to take one day at a time, and to enjoy the simple things. Growing up here was truly a privilege.
Tony Bennett knew what he was talking about when he sang, "I left my heart in San Francisco." For us, there's no place quite like San Francisco. Wherever we go, our hearts will always be in the city by the Bay.
Thanks to a vibrant craft brewery scene, we can now combine two of our favorite things when visiting San Diego: seafood & beer. Guided by foodie and San Diego local, Danielle Solomon, we hit up some lesser known spots.
Happy Father's Day! Stories from the road while traveling with my dad.
An afternoon enjoyed at the picturesque, brother owned Scribe winery in Sonoma, CA.
As I sit down to write and reflect on my time along the Trans Catalina Trail, I can see my feet just past the top of my laptop screen. One big toe is bright purple, pulsing as I type. To be honest, the throbbing keeps me up at night. Two other toes are raw pink, the top half of the skin on them literally fell off after the 360 degree blister bulbs on them burst and were subsequently ripped off (nails included). When I got off the ferry in Avalon, I had no idea I was embarking on what I would come to refer to as the “cadence of pain”. To be fair, bouts of laughter so intense they hurt my gut offset said cadence, but my cankles still need to return to being ankles so there’s time for healing.
